Entertainment! – Gang Of Four

Best Track to Start on: Damaged Goods
Favourite Track: At Home He’s A Tourist
Review: I was first made aware of this album when Spotify randomly shuffled the single Damaged Goods into my playlist, immediately catching my attention. This lead me to give the entire album a try front to back. At first listen, the whole album sounded like a while lot of angular guitar noise and incessant drumming, paired with Jon King’s deadpan-robot vocals, it takes quite a few listens to get into. A deep analysis of the lyrical content reveals critiques and comments on capitalism, consumerism and an overall dim outlook on life during the peak of the cold war. Some of the lyrics on At Home He’s A Tourist and Damaged Goods remind me of Pulp’s gritty descriptions of 90s British existence set behind a punk backdrop. Meanwhile, the entire B side certainly feels like the embodiment of proletariat from 1984’s life written into punk.
Ultimately, the A-side is packed full with catchy riffs that weave and fourth through the lyrical commentary. Its on the second half of the B-side where catch myself getting up and ending the listen through.

Born To Run – Bruce Springsteen
1975 • Pop Rock | Folk Rock
Best Track to Start on: Born To Run
Favourite Track: Jungleland
Review: Springsteen’s third, breakout album, and probably my favourite of his. High energy tracks like Thunder Road, Born To Run and Jungleland are spaced out by emotional, more orchestral tracks like Night, Backstreets and Meeting Across The River.
My copy of Born To Run has a moderate bowl warp and it gives me extreme anxiety everytime I play the B-side. But Jungleland is so good it almost feels masochistic.
